Catherine BOISVENUE MÉNARD
Catherine Boisvenue Ménard is an interdisciplinary artist that creates paintings, sculptures, and video performances. Her three independent practices are influenced by theatre, circus, and dance. Her work establishes a dialogue between the tensions and vulnerabilities of the body encountering nature and the human condition. In her paintings, recurring patterns of eyes, hands, and feet are concealed in her geometrical and graphical compositions. They shape our imagination through a questioning of the ways in which we manage to reconciliate ourselves with our bodies.
Catherine Boisvenue Ménard is a visual artist from Montreal/Tiohti’ák. She has a master’s degree in fine arts, painting and drawing from Concordia University (2021) and a bachelor in visual and media arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2015). She presented her works in more than twenty solo and group exhibitions since 2015: in Brazil (“Latin America’s Fall Salon”, São Paulo), Germany (“Female Gaze”, FrauenMuseum, Berlin) and Quebec (“Manif d’art”, Quebec, Fonderie Darling, Montreal). Since 2016, Boisvenue-Ménard has also participated in artist residencies in Rio de Janeiro, Havane, Bonn and Montreal. She is an awardee of many prizes and grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Montreal Council for the Arts. She also received recognition from the Tom Hupkins Award and the Harriet and Abe Gold entrance Bursary from Concordia University, as well as the First Prize of the jury of the Saint-Lambert contemporary art fair (2019). She has an upcoming exhibition in 2023 at the Atoll centre of Victoriaville.
