Florence GIROUX GRAVEL

Florence Giroux Gravel creates 3D artworks made of a plethora of threads. Inspired by nature, the artist employs the strand as a pigment that she uses to explore brightness, spatiality and the perception of depth and movement. Giroux Gravel mindfully stretches threads and accumulates them in meticulous compositions teeming with color. Like in a pointillist artwork, she materializes complex chromatic blends that transform with the motions of the viewer, provoking a multiplication of points of view. This results in an experience in between the realms of the visible and the invisible, where rhythm, resonance and vibration coalesce.

Florence Giroux Gravel is a multidisciplinary artist based in Quebec. In 2016, she obtained a certificate in Studio Art (MFA Program) of the New York University (NYU Steinhardt), a master’s in Art Sciences and Fine Arts from the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne Paris 1, and a bachelor’s degree in art history from the Université Laval, Quebec in 2013. She presented her work during solo exhibitions, at Ubisoft (2020, Montreal), the Marius-Barbeau Museum (2019, St-Joseph-de-Beauce), the Galerie AVE (2019, Montreal) and soon at the Centre culturel Georges-Vanier (2022, Montreal). She was also showcased during group shows and events, such as the 14th edition of Créations-sur-le-champ/ Land art (2021, Mont-Saint-Hilaire), the Contemporary Art Fair of Saint-Lambert (2020), “Pop up” at the Matéria Center (2019, Quebec), the 2019th edition of ARTCH (Montreal) and at The Commons Gallery (2016, New York, USA). Furthermore, Giroux Gravel was the recipient of the “Première Ovation” Mentoring Grant in Public Art (MANIF D’ART, Ville de Québec and CALQ), and a Production Grant in 2019 from ARTCH (Art Souterrain, Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Montréal Centre-Ville and Conseil des arts de Montréal). Her artworks are now part of the Claridge Inc. and Ubisoft collections, as well as in many private collections in Canada, the United States and France.
