Marc KNOWLES
Marc Knowles paints a world that combines abstraction with fantasy landscapes: spaces that are simultaneously retro-futuristic, psychedelic, and personal. In his universe, pieces of natural and artificial structures (stalagmites, geodes, pyramids, and buildings) are painted in a way that resembles old computer graphics. These geometric structures appear in environments dripping with colours: spaces challenging the relation between solid and liquid matter in contemporary painting.
Originally from Ottawa, Canada, Marc Knowles now lives and works in Montreal since 2003. He obtained a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Concordia University, Montreal (2008), as well as a Master of Visual Arts at NSCAD University, Halifax (2016). His artworks have been presented in many solo and group exhibitions, notably for the Contemporary Art Fair of Saint-Lambert (2019) and the 2015-2016 edition of “Fresh Paint/ New Construction” group exhibition at the Galerie Art Mûr, Montreal. Marc Knowles has also curated a group exhibition titled “Rarities”at the Cache Studio, Montreal, 2021. This exhibition united the works of four upcoming Canadian contemporary painters. Since 2015, his artworks are part of the collections of the City of Ottawa and Senvest Capital.
