Tania GIRARD SAVOIE
In her artworks, Tania Girard Savoie combines different pictorial and graphic practices (painting, drawing, screen-printing, lithography, engraving). Her monotypes modernize the process of traditional screen-printing with her translucent compositions and layering of multiple shapes and elegant lines made with stencils and printing techniques. Her artworks explore the concepts of erasure and disappearance with her repetitive use of engraved and colored slabs placed under the press. The abstract floating shapes and the proliferation of graphic patterns on paper create imprecise and harmonious delimitations, creating cartographies, beautiful imaginary territories. Girard Savoie’s hazy worlds of warm colours and pastel tones are unique and vibrant. Paradoxically, a strong sense of movement emerges from the calmness of her artworks.
Tania Girard Savoie resides in Quebec City and is a multidisciplinary artist specialized in painting, screenprinting, drawing and engraving. She obtained her master’s in visual arts at the Université Laval of Quebec (2000), where she teached screenprinting from 2009 to 2017. Presently the head of the Engramme studio in Quebec, she participated in many group exhibitions since 1999, notably in Barcelona, Scotland, Bulgaria, Brazil, France and Belgium. In Quebec, her most recent solo show, “Multiplicité, luminosité et transparences” was presented at the Maison de la culture Janine Sutto in Montreal (2021). She participated at events such as the Foire d’Art Actuel of Quebec (2022), and multiple exhibitions at Engramme, Quebec (2022, 2017), at the Lethbridge exhibition center, Montreal (2022) and at the Papier art fair, Montreal (2019). She was invited to participate at different art residencies, such as the Symposium international d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul (2002), at the Frans Masereel Center in Belgium (2006) and at Engramme, Quebec (2017). In addition, she won many art architecture integration projects, such at the Laure-Conan library and the City Hall at the city of Malbaie (2011) and the major project at the Saint-Roch YMCA of the city of Quebec (2020).
